Who is your favorite histororical figure?

Nelson Mandela

The famous historical person was Nelson Mandela whom fought the apartheid that was introduced by British to surpass negros by taking away their resources and pocketing the wealth of the country. The part I don’t understand is, when independent was given to south Africa to be independent why didn’t the earlier leaders say no to apartheid at that time. Why must this Nelson Mandela and his followers fight for nation to be free from apartheid and to be jailed countless of time? Finally free from apartheid is the cruellest thing to be happening in the nation
