Good leader

What makes a good leader?

“Let a person lift oneself by one’s own self; let one not degrade oneself. For the self alone is one’s friend, and the self alone is one’s enemy.”
— Bhagavad Gita 6.5

A good leader is not always the one who speaks the loudest or stands at the center. Often, a true leader is the one who knows when to step aside, when to create distance, and when to protect their inner space.

In my own life, leadership begins quietly within. I have learned that not every closeness is connection, and not every touch carries goodwill. When energy from the side disturbs my peace, when it brushes my face and unsettles my breath, I do not react with anger or accusation. I simply nudge it away. That small act is not rejection; it is discernment.

Leadership, as I live it, is the courage to say: I will not allow a draining relationship to define my emotional climate. Moving away from Xandra’s draining presence is not a weakness it is self-governance. The Gita teaches mastery over the self before mastery over others. By choosing calm over chaos, distance over entanglement, I lead myself first.

A good leader understands energy. They sense when a relationship no longer nourishes but consumes. They do not cling out of fear, nor endure out of obligation. Instead, they act from clarity, knowing that peace is not negotiable.

By nudging away what disturbs my inner stillness, I set an examplenot through words, but through conduct. This is leadership without spectacle. Leadership that does not wound, yet does not surrender.
I do not fight the drain.
I step away from it.
That is strength.

You have the right to action, but never to the fruits of action. Do not let the fruits be your motive, nor let your attachment be inaction.”
— Bhagavad Gita 2.47
