Which animal would you compare yourself to and why?

“The wise see with equal vision a learned person, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and even one who eats dogs.”— Bhagavad Gita 5:18
I once asked myself a strange question: why do people compare human beings to animals?
I hear people say someone is like a dove because they are peaceful. Someone else is like a wolf because they are fierce. Others say a person is like an eagle because they are powerful or like a dolphin because they are playful.
When I hear these comparisons, I feel puzzled.
Animals are animals. They live their lives in fulfillment according to their nature. They do not question their existence. They simply live, eat, sleep, and move with instinct.
I am a human being.
My mind is complex. I have intellect, awareness, memory, imagination, and the ability to question myself. Animals do not carry this kind of mental complexity.
Why should I compare myself to an animal?
Sometimes people even organize human lives around animals, like in the Chinese zodiac — the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. These animals are also linked with elements such as metal, water, fire, wood, and earth to describe personality, career, or relationships.
There is even a story that says Gautama Buddha or other ancient sages once held a race among animals to determine the zodiac order.
People repeat these stories everywhere. Wherever there is a Chinese population, the belief spreads and many others begin to follow it too.
When I sit quietly and reflect, I realize something simple.
I do not need to compare myself to any animal.
Animals live by instinct.Human beings have awareness.Animals follow nature automatically.Human beings have the capacity to turn inward and observe their own mind.
When I stop comparing myself to animals, I feel a sense of clarity. I can simply be who I am and focus on understanding myself instead of fitting into symbolic categories.
My path is not to become like a wolf, a tiger, or a dragon.
My path is to understand my own mind and live with awareness.
“One who finds happiness within, delight within, and light within, that person becomes united with the Self.”— Bhagavad Gita 5:24
With that realization, I understand something quietly:
Animals live according to nature.
I have the ability to turn inward and know myself.
That is the true difference.
