What’s the best way to build self-confidence?

A young seeker once climbed a mountain to meet a wise sage.”Master,” he asked, “how can I become confident? I am afraid of failure, of judgment, and of not being enough.

“The sage smiled and handed him a small seed.

“Plant this seed in the valley below and return every day to care for it.”The seeker obeyed.

He watered the soil, protected it from weeds, and watched over it. Days passed, then weeks. Nothing seemed to happen.Discouraged, he returned to the sage.”

I have worked hard, yet there is no result.”The sage replied:”You have a right to perform your duties, but not to the fruits of your actions.”

The seeker reflected on these words and continued his work. He stopped worrying about when the seed would grow and focused instead on tending it faithfully each day.Months later, a strong tree emerged from the earth. The seeker rushed back to the sage.”Master, the tree has grown! Was confidence hidden inside the seed?”The sage shook his head.”No.

Confidence was growing inside you. Every day you acted despite uncertainty. Every day you chose effort over fear.”The seeker thought deeply.”But what if fear returns?”The sage pointed to the mountain path.”Then remember this: no one can walk that path for you.

Your greatest friend and your greatest enemy both live within you.”And the sage spoke:”Let a man lift himself by himself; let him not degrade himself.

For the self alone is the friend of oneself, and the self alone is the enemy of oneself.”The seeker bowed with gratitude. From that day onward, whenever doubt appeared, he remembered the seed and the tree. He understood that confidence is not something found at the end of the journey—it is built with every step taken despite fear.Moral:

The seeker who focuses on right action rather than results discovers that courage grows quietly within, just as a tree grows from a seed unseen beneath the soil.
