The genie grants you a wish. What is it?

The genie in the old stories is not simply a magical creature waiting inside a lamp to grant wishes. Across different cultures and traditions, beliefs about unseen beings have been passed from generation to generation.

Some people believe these beings can be approached, fed, protected, or kept close through particular practices. For some faith seekers who do not pray to idols, the practice may not be about worshipping an image at all. Instead, it can involve inherited customs, prayers, offerings, or rituals that families have continued for generations.

Within those belief systems, the unseen being may be understood as a protector or guardian. But a genie viewed from 360 degrees raises another question: Who is actually protecting whom?

From one direction, the genie is seen as a protector. From another, it is a tradition inherited from ancestors. From another, it is a belief strengthened every time the practice is repeated. And from another, it becomes a question of awareness: Are we continuing something because we consciously understand it, or simply because generations before us did the same thing?

The world keeps changing. Beliefs, technology, society, and human understanding keep changing with it. Therefore, perhaps the real wish is not to ask a genie for unlimited money, endless energy, or a life without problems.

The greater wish would be:“Give me the awareness to see the whole circle—not just one side of the belief.”

The genie may grant a wish in a story.
